mechanical symbiosis, 2023

Video installation
mimosa pudica in a dresser, hydroponic system, dishwasher pipe, video projection, camera, humidifier, computer program.

The installation Mechanical Symbiosis is comprised of two sculptural systems that are symbiotically connected to each other and nourish, without the touch of the human hand, the Mimosa Pudica plant, also known as the “Touch-Me-Not”. The plant grows in an ecosystem within a chest of drawers. When the “Touch-Me-Not” comes into contact with any other object, it shrinks. Alongside the primary hydroponic feeding system connected to the chest of drawers, a secondary system drips a few drops on the Mimosa once every few minutes, causes its leaves to respond and constrict.

The second sculptural system consists of a pipe, an image analysis software and a thermal camera. The camera detects the viewer's breathing rate and translates it into a graph that affects the exit rate of water vapor from holes along the tube. At the same time, a video is projected on the tube in which the image of the viewer appears combined with a graph of his breathing.
